TFP Success Stories
John Breen

Occupation: Information Technology Professional

Goals Acheived: Participated in multiple 5Ks (hadn't done anything since grammar school!), dropped 15 pounds of weight, and got out to exercise because I WANTED to exercise, and not because someone told me to do it!

Races Completed:

  • Lincolnwood Turkey Trot 5K: 2006
  • Reach Out and Run 5K: 2007
  • Mundelein Freedom Run 5K : 2007
  • Lake Zurich Triathlon (Olympic Relay), Biker: 2007

How TFP Helped Me Reach My Goals: With encouragement from TFP Coaches, I learned what to do and what NOT to do in order to succeed. TFP's structured programs and groups helped with encouragement, camaraderie, challenges and helped me learn how to set good goals.

What's Next? Build my endurance to run 10K by the end of next year and at least a duathlon or two.

What Advice Do You Have for Other TFP Athletes? The goal is YOURS. Unless your goal is to exceed everyone else's goals, work at what YOU want to achieve. You don't have to be the first in the event (though it would be nice). While the advice "slower will make you faster" sounded so much like a bunch of garbage, building that base is critical. This is evidenced by comparing my recent EMR results against previous results. By training in the right zones, my body now knows what it needs to do to maintain my movement and that's NOT by just burning carbs!
